What is CAA &

Who is behind it?

Community Athletics & Activities (CAA) is a private, non-profit organization with the mission to come together as a community to save our district’s athletic and activity programs.

CAA is a volunteer grassroots organization made up of local businesspersons, community leaders, parents and concerned citizens. It currently has a 5-member board of directors as well as a large group of volunteers.

CAA is not an exclusive group; it is open to any and all members of the community who wish to help support our cause.

What is our goal?

Our immediate goal is to raise $2.6 million dollars to fully fund ALL athletic and activity programs at Moses Lake High School, Vanguard Academy and our 3 middle schools for the 24-25 school year. We also intend to provide oversight and accountability to ensure all funds raised are used for their intended purposes.

Should support be needed beyond 24-25, which appears likely to be the case, CAA plans to continue supporting Moses Lake athletics and activities.

Why is this important?

You may or may not know that the MLSD does not have any funds to provide any extra-curricular activities for our students. This includes all activities, clubs and athletics for Middle through High School students. We are here to help fund these students in need.

We need our community to come together more than ever right now for the sake of our students.

Where will my donation be used?

CAA is made up of taxpayers who have lost trust in the Moses Lake School District. Before providing any funding to the MLSD for athletic and activity programs, the group will be requiring the district to submit itemized funding requests detailing how exactly the district plans to spend the money.

Additionally, the CAA will insist that upon acceptance of any funding, the MLSD School Board affirmatively agrees that those funds will be used for the specific purposes intended.

Does this include Middle School?

Yes! This campaign has a goal of funding ALL students Middle through High School for participation in competitive after school activities and athletics.

Is this just for athletics?

No this is not just for athletics! We are working for all the students in the district that participate in extracurricular activities (clubs/activities/athletics).

Can our club/sport fund itself?

Due to Federal Title IX and other state laws, funding and opportunities for athletics and activities must be equitable on a gender basis. See WAC 392-190-025: for more information regarding these laws. Our goal is to provide for ALL athletics and activities. We are in this together.

Is my donation tax deductible?

CAA has been set up as a 501c3 charitable organization, which means your donation will be tax deductible.

What happens if we fall short of the $2.6 million dollar goal?

While our plan is to reach our goal, should we fall short of the amount needed to fully fund all programs, we are looking at ways to reduce costs to operate these programs. If for some reason we cannot offer athletics and activities to all our students, we hope to provide as many opportunities as community support will allow.

What is the deadline to raise the funds?

Currently, the CAA plans to assess fundraising efforts on or before the July 25th regular meeting of the Moses Lake School Board. At that time, we expect to have a projection of what levels of funding we will be able to provide, and a plan for the next 4 weeks. We’ve been given the date of August 21st, the first day of fall sports practices in the district, as an absolute deadline to have an athletics and activities program outlined and funding secured for the 24-25 school year.

What happens to the money if CAA is unable to fund athletics and activities for the 24-25 school year?

If we simply cannot raise the funds needed for a basic athletics and activities program, CAA will have 2 primary options. One option would be to hold monies donated and look to fund a 25-26 athletics and activities program. A second option would be to return the monies to the donors.

The lives we will impact...

Thank you for considering donating to this great cause.

This community should be here to support our future and this all starts with our students. We know how vital these programs were for us and are for our students as they navigate their lives. This is a time for us to come together as a community and make an impact that can be remembered for years.
